Panel of professionals in medicine and public health:
The second presentation of the medicine panel was that of Dr. Diana Girnita, the founder of Rheumatologist Oncall. Titled "The future is here: the care for patients is ONE TOUCH away!” her presentation looked at the timely ascent of telemedicine prior to the pandemic and the likely need of remote services for the foreseeable future. She presented her company currently serving patients in six states and the benefits of delivering services at substantially discounted disclosed rates, a level of transparency not practiced by insurance providers. A good number of physicians became interested in providing care outside the traditional insurance intermediated system. Dr. Girnita funded a nonprofit organization called “Direct Specialty Care Alliance” whose goal is to provide support and advocacy for reasserting patient-physician relationships without the price hikes of insurance intermediaries. The presentation was also an occasion to talk about her mentor role volunteering in the programs of the Blue Heron Foundation.
